Kyra Sedgwick Apprehended in High-Speed Forklift Incident

NEW YORK, NY  A forklift apparently driven by Golden Globe-winning actress Kyra Sedgwick has been booked for speeding at 119 m.p.h. along a coastal beach highway at the southern end of the Hawaiian island of Maui. Police had identified the forklift belonging to Lindsay Carving Co. as the offending vehicle; the company said the vehicle had been borrowed “without our knowledge or consent.” Sedgwick was caught when police requested the company provide the identity of the driver of a Toyota vehicle travelling south at 119 m.p.h. on State Highway 1 at Waikanae at 4:51 p.m. on January 7. A company employee identified her from a photograph. The forklift was bought new by the company in 2006 and the furthest it had travelled previously was probably a block and a half, said the company. Sedgwick could not be reached for comment, but a rep says she is currently back in New York and participating in a charity event sponsored by Hill's Pet Nutrition, a pet food chain based out of Topeka, Kan. Hill’s has organized “Change a Pet's Life Day” for Jan. 24 to draw in individuals to adopt new pets and bring attention to the 300 participating shelters. Kempton said. Some 3,000 pets will be offered up for free adoptions at animal shelters throughout the United States during the event. "Eight million pets a year enter shelters," Janet Donlin of Hill's said. "We are hoping that people who have been thinking about adding a pet to their family will take this opportunity to do so." The 3,000 free animal adoptions will represent the first 10 animals adopted at each of the 300 locations on Jan. 24. Hill's is paying all fees for those initial adoptions, which can range from $25 to $300. A full list of the participating centers is available at feedingisbelieving.com. "I hope people will at least consider the possibility of getting a shelter pet," the Sedgwick said in a press release. Sedgwick is married to actor Kevin Bacon. Sedgwick most recently is the star of cable television’s “The Closer,” created by James Duff, Michael M. Robin and Greer Shephard. The show co-stars J. K. Simmons, G. W. Bailey, Michael Paul Chan, Raymond Cruz, Tony Denison, Corey Reynolds, Robert Gossett, Gina Ravera, Philip P. Keene, and Jon Tenney.
