Lollie Ortiz is an artist living in San Francisco, California. Educated in advertising design, she has since changed direction from an advertising career and entertainment design to the emerging world of pop art and fine art photography.
Since 2006, her work has evolved from conceptually based imagery to combined complex levels of photographic and graphic illustration. Images of ordinary life as well as being attracted to icons has added various perspectives while her passion for dissecting the dynamics of bold compositions and opposing sizes and shapes continues to emerge. Abstract themes also allowed her to embellish this new journey with the mysteries of digital manipulation and her own personal discoveries.
Current Exhibit: Icons & Art: Michelle & Barack
J. Lucas Gallery, Provincetown, MA, September 25 – October 25, 2009.
The US President and First Lady have had a psychic shift on the art world, moving artists from a palette of Bush/Cheney horror, frustration and disbelief to an Obama canvas of heroic, iconic images.
“Icons & Art: Michelle & Barack” focuses on how the Obamas have seemingly overnight put hope back on the table. Whether it’s issues of race, politics, or a sense that the rules have been rewritten, artists around the globe have incorporated Obama imagery into their work.
Miss Ortiz is very proud to be a part of this special group gallery exhibit with her photographic image titled: Progress. It was taken in front of a San Francisco abandoned housing unit that featured a poster of Mr. Obama on the side of it. It seemed to draw a lot of attention but mostly because Mr. Obama at this time had not yet been elected President of the United States. Miss Ortiz’s was focused the poster when an elderly woman who was shuffling slowly towards the building caught her attention. The woman suddenly stopped to catch her breath. In that instant Miss Ortiz not only felt a connection as a senior citizen but also by the personal belief that through “inspired progress” we as a people of diverse ideas can fine new solutions towards creating a better life for one and all.
