Angel Orensanz: matter/light. A New Sculpture Experiential. March 3-6, 2009 This Tuesday, March 3 will open a public presentation of  Angel Orensanz’s last sculpture environment, titled "matter/light" that dissolves the boundaries between gesture and object, between reflection and structure. For the last couple of decades Orensanz has practiced a level of work in which he has captured the landscape seen in motion  from cars, ships and airplanes transforming it into levels of light and energy. The Foundation is presenting a large collection of this work, interpretive and embracing, intuitive and forceful. It continues the fascination with the light developments of Dan Flavin and a whole generation of American artists from the 1960’s and 70’s. The images are all light, light projected, cathodic light, light trapped into electric fields that depart from all the angles of the space creating a field of energy and matter-energy.The exhibition Weightlessness that is winding down now at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art was built along the same parameters. Angel Orensanz has been operating on these principles for no less than two decades in sculptural experiential such as Nasa’s Lab; The Far Reaches of Space; The Steppes of Mars; Outer Space and Launching Pad. Orensanz does not use light as decoration or scenery, but as the building block of a linguistic, art based statement. LED sculptures, transparent pictures, shafts of projections over a floor that operates as an inverted dome of moving light, like sculpture waves in the quantum mechanics. Both matter/light and Weightlessness are being curated by Juanli Carrion and Jaume Centeno, a driving force of the recently created Digital Studio within the Angel Orensanz Foundation that works with the sculptor as a lab of interaction and production for his shows. matter/light will be open to the public from March 3 through the 6, between 10 am and 8 pm at the Angel Orensanz Foundation, New York, 172 Norfolk St. New York, NY 10002.
