On 11/14, the Jain Society of Greater Atlanta (JSGA) will realize its dream of opening the doors to their place of worship - the only Jain Temple in Atlanta.
Opening Ceremonies are scheduled from November 14th through November 23rd at the Jain Temple at 669 South Peachtree St. Norcross, GA 30071.
The temple will add another 8400 sf to the existing community center. The temple will feature a breathtaking 5-dome structure made of imported hand carved marble crafted by overseas artisans.
Jainism is said to be one of the oldest religions int the world founded upon the teachings of Lord Mahavir. The cornerstone of the religion is based upon "ahimsa" or nonviolence that is said to have inspired Mahatma Gandhi to pursue India’s Independence from the Colonial Rule through non-violent means and whose success further inspired Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr; to fight race inequalities.
Less than 1 percent of Indians practice Jainism. Still, its followers number in the millions worldwide and a tight-knit community of about 100,000 faithful has flourished in the United States.
This monumental sanctuary will add to the historical legacy of Jainism worldwide, whose tenets of ecology and environmental consciousness originated over 2500 years ago.
