Permission has been granted for the expansion of Leeds Bradford International Airport in a development that will provide thousands of jobs to the local community.
Leeds Council's Plans Panel West has given its approval to a £28 million improvement proposal submitted by the airport's owner Bridgepoint, which will upgrade the terminal and increase the facility's capacity.
The developer has not yet announced a specific figure for the number of jobs likely to be created during the transformation - though thousands are anticipated to be required during its construction.
John Parkin, chief executive of Bridgepoint, suggested that this decision would have economic benefits for Yorkshire.
He said: "This is really good news for the people of this region. We are passionate in our determination to deliver a passenger experience which offers the very best in airport design and service standards."
The Leeds labour market was given a further boost earlier this month when a recruitment campaign was launched by the Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission to employ 300 staff members in the city.
