With the development of electric motors and gear manufacturing technology, the volume of electric motors and gear box is smaller and smaller now, it provide the possibility to combine a electric motor and a gearbox into a gearmotor. The key technology to realize it is the connecting adapter, with good adapter technology the gearmotor will work very well. There two ways to connect electric motor with gearbox, one is to use a adapter which with two flange and a inner coupling, the other is to put the first gear of gearbox into the shaft of motors directly. For the first way is normal, we will focus on the second way of connecting. Connecting gear and shaft of motor have many ways, there are instructed as follows: 1. Gear with hole and keyways/spline. This way is easy for design, manufacturing, assembling and maintenance, so widely used in today’s gearmotors. The small gear will not available for too small hole and shaft will have no enough strength. 2. Gear with hole without keyways. Easy to manufacture, difficult maintenance, for some small structure. 3. Shaft with taper hole and axial tighten bolt. Easy assembling, assembling and maintenance and have high universal use in series products, few different shaft structures needed, difficult to manufacturing for having taper hole. 4. Shaft with cylindrical hole with key ways or without keyways. Have the same features as way 3, the precision of assembling and strength are lower than the way 3. 5. Motor’s shaft cut gear directly It is little use in gearmotors, for difficult manufacturing and maintenance and too many parts for series products. It is only used for extremely small gear like gear with 11 or less teeth.
