The 49ers have started the season with a great performance against Seattle and an ugly OT loss to the Cowboys. Quarterback Alex Smith has struggled most of the year and the Niners will need improved play from their QB if they expect to contend for a playoff spot this year. Veteran running back Frank Gore had started slowly this season, but he should pick up his play soon. Tight end Vernon Davis has also come slowly out of the gate, but one expects his receiving totals to pick up once the QB play gets better. Wideouts Michael Crabtree and the newly acquired Braylon Edwards will also need to help the Niners improve their offense.
