EVCL, the creative design studio based in Abuja Nigeria, has released the first of its free online 3D animation and visual effects tutorials. ‘We noticed whilst interacting on forums and speaking to students especially, that there was a huge number of people who wanted to be trained in 3D animation etc.’ says EVCL director Adamu Waziri.
‘However we couldn’t meet the need to train all these people effectively because of the way our company is currently set up. So we decided the best way to help absolute beginners curious about 3D animation and visual effects was to do a small series of free online tutorials. That is where the idea of the Mumu’s Guide came from. A mumu in local slang is similar to a dummy. So you can see this as our take on the ‘Dummies Guide To’ series. We intend to tailor it for the local Nigerian/West African audience and we hope it will be of help to those who are interested in the industry.’
‘There are a lot of young minds interested in this field in this region but no real framework to help them take it up. There are very few structured courses out there. Though we don’t pretend that this online tutorial series will be a substitute for a proper vocational course we want it to serve as a bridging gap by keeping those young minds interested. In a developing economy such as Nigeria’s it is important to develop knowledge based economies. One of the biggest sectors of knowledge based economies is the creative economy ’
The series will be available on the company blog at http://evclvisuals.blogspot.com/ and through their Youtube channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/EVCL1 .
