The West Louisville Tennis Club will host the 8th Arthur Lloyd Johnson State Championship. The USTA-sanctioned tournament will be held from Friday, June 19th - Sunday, June 21st at Chickasaw Park in West Louisville.
The late Arthur Lloyd Johnson was the son of Arthur Sr. and Olda Anderson Johnson. Born Dec. 5, 1914, in Lawrence, Kansas was a member of the Kentucky Tennis Patrons Hall of Fame. He was also an educator for Jefferson County Public Schools and served as a coach of numerous sports including tennis and was a member of the Central High School Hall of Fame.
The ALJ tournament has been well attended in previous years. Patrons tend to be avid tennis players who value the health and social benefits the game avails.
The entry deadline for the Arthur Lloyd Johnson State Championship is noon June 16, 2009. The tournament will feature men's and women's singles and doubles as well as mixed doubles play. Entries are open to any USTA (United States Tennis Association) members. Entry fees are $30.00 each singles, $19.00 each doubles - per player, and play is on both clay and hard surfaces.
Singles events include open ages 30 - 75 and rated events for 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0. Doubles events include open ages 30 - 75 and father/son and mother/daughter events. Mixed doubles events include open 35, 45, and 55 as well as husband/wife events. Registration forms can be obtained through participating tennis venues throughout Louisville. Online registration is also available at www. kentuckytennis.com. Kentucky Rising Stars Program Director, Jack Barton is Tournament Director.
