Phil.) courses and has recognized research centres for Aquaculture, Environmental studies and Entomology. Our department has produced more than 70 Ph.D’s and 220 M.Phil’s. Moreover it is a DST-FIST sponsored department. Entomology Research Unit is an internationally reputed centre for Reduviid Biodiversity, biology, ethology and biological control potential evaluation studies. Crop Protection Research Centre is concentrating on mass production of reduviid predators, field evaluation, spider biology, microbial insecticides and plant-based insecticides. ABOUT THE CITY Palayamkottai is located about 3 Km from Tirunelveli junction on Chennai-Kanyakumari mainline of Southern Railway and is well connected by air, rail and road (NH 7) networks to the rest of the country. Nearest airport is Thoothukudi (40 Km.), Madurai (150 Km.), Tirvandram (150 Km.) and Chennai (650 Km.). Moreover, Tirunelveli District is versatile with regard to biodiversity in having Western Ghats, diverse agroecosystems and reservoirs Kanyakumari is about 80 Km from Palayamkottai where one can see both sunrise and sunset. During late November, the weather is warm and pleasant (24 + 2OC).
