Varnish Magazine, a publication for artists, just released its premiere issue. The quarterly ‘zine’ is four, large-format pages and prints articles about, seeing, creating and selling art. The magazine features practical information to help fine artists promote and sell their work. Each quarter Varnish Magazine profiles a local artist and gallery. The ‘Collectors Corner’ hosts thoughts and perspectives of local art collectors, sometimes anonymously. It also lists dates for key exhibits, art related novels and ‘how-to’ tips for artists.
Local artist and editor of the magazine, Massimo Mazzon, was inspired by similar publications in his native country of Italy. ‘In Italy there are many beautiful publications available about the local art scene. The Bay Area is home to many excellent fine artists who would like to sell more work. I want to create a publication that inspires and informs those working fine artists.’
Varnish magazine plans to develop its web-site with content from the magazine. It currently offers a pdf version of the quarterly for a small fee.
