Club Empowered, a corporate forum was launched recently at The Poona Club. Club Empowered is a P.R initiative by Empowered Solutions ( a P.R and Communications Company ). In her opening remarks Ms Shabnam Asthana, the Director of the company, mentioned that this forum would endeavour to encourage the empowerment of its members by providing them with a rich access to information and resources. While encouraging positive and collective thinking, it would also aim at a self initiated growth process. She further elaborated by saying that the gaining of knowledge and skill sets coupled with the right attitude to cope with the changing world and the circumstances would be the nerve centre of this empowerment. She urged the members to participate whole heartedly and utilise this opportunity to connect, collaborate and learn from each other’s experiences. Club Empowered would strive to create “ responsibility with authority .’’ The guest speaker the Additional DGP State CID PUNE, – Mr SPS Yadav, spoke on a very topical issue – Traffic Woes on Indian Roads. This subject was of great interest to the participants. During his talk he mentioned how traffic management involves the coordination between a number of agencies, namely the Municipal Corporation, Cantonment Boards, PWD, MSRDC, Signal companies and people’s participation as well as that of individuals. Quoting figures about Pune city he went on to say that the population of Pune was above 50 lakhs and the number of vehicles was above 21 lakhs. There were 214 traffic signals and there were about 3900 vehicles per policeman in Pune. The major areas of concern were “ signal jumping , use of mobile phones, carrying excess passengers and wrong Parking by autorickshaws. The year 2008 ( till June ) recorded 236 fatal accidents and 270 serious accidents. ” He suggested various measures for decongestion such as encouragement for mass transport , bus lanes, road markings , separate lanes for slow moving vehicles , use of GPS for deciding routes and the use of intelligent transport system. The Club Empowered members were very enthusiastic and the interactive session saw active participation. Mr Virendra Sud , Managing Director of DATC India Ltd, delivered the vote of thanks. The impressive list of participants included employees from reputed corporates namely the Tata Group, Coca Cola, Suzlon Energy, Premium Energy Transmission Ltd, Vertex Software, Essel Group, Godrej and Boyce, Benelec Infotech, Synygy and so on. The members welcomed this initiative and praised the efforts put in by Empowered Solutions and complimented its Director Ms Shabnam Asthana for her efforts in initiating this powerful forum ! Having concluded its launch successfully , Club Empowered will now meet on the last Friday of every month.
