Villa Ralfa, Crete, Greece announces Winter 2008/2009 Special offer for gay and lesbian travellers

Following the success of its Winter special last year Villa Ralfa, Crete's 'first' gay hotel and guest house accommodation, is repeating its Winter Special offer for 2008/2009.

Villa Ralfa, Hersonissos, Crete, Greece has announced that it will be repeating its special winter offer during Winter 2008/2009. This comprises a special rate for three nights accommodation including breakfast, and an evening meal on the last night. Billing itself as the first gay owned and run hotel accommodation and lodgings on Crete, specifically for gay and lesbian travellers, Villa Ralfa opened in 2004 and has welcomed a steady stream of visitors from around the world ever since. The winter offer, starting November 10th 2008, is available on a 'first come first served' basis as accommodation is limited, and is designed to give Winter travellers a chance to spend a weekend on Crete during their stay in Greece. ''We intended that the winter weekend offer would give visitors to Athens a chance for an economical side trip for Friday through until Monday,'' says Tim, the owner since Villa Ralfa opened, 'Four years ago this would not have been possible as there were very few other places open during the winter months. However the last couple of years has seen a considerable increase in local population, both immigrants form Northern Europe and Greeks, so that demand for bars and restaurants to be open has increased the choice for the winter tourist.'' "Of course, the nightlife is not as frantic as during the high summer season," he continues, "But with the main archaeological site at Knossos and the museums open in Heraklion, which take up a day, and a little touring around the island, without the amount of traffic found during the summer months, there is plenty for visitors to occupy their time for a weekend. Naturally the weather is not as reliable as during the summer months, but visitors will be able to enjoy seeing Crete with its winter coat of green and sample 'Crete without the crowds'." Travel to Crete during the winter months is quite easy as the ferries from Athens-Piraeus run daily, and the local airlines Olympic and Aegean both provide regular services to Heraklion with some very economical fares available for passengers booking in advance. As well as the Olympic services from the UK through Manchester and London Heathrow, Aegean Arlines also now offer direct flights from London Stanstead to Athens and onward to Heraklion Crete.
