PublishingYourWork.com Offers Free Services for NaNoWriMo

NaNoWriMo (nanowrimo.org) is an event encouraging people to write an entire 50,000 word novel in the month of November. PublishingYourWork.com is supporting the event by offering free professional manuscript and idea consultation for participants.

Have you heard about NaNoWriMo?  It's a global effort to encourage people to write!  For 10 years now National (though it's now global) Novel Writing Month has taken place every year with the challenge for people to write a 50,000 word novel during the month of November.  Hey, that's only 1,667 words a day, and if you start now you'll be caught up in no time.  If you sign up at their site you can choose a geographic region, and you can be part of a discussion group of writers in that region. This is a dynamite way to encourage people to finally stop thinking about writing and actually do it.  There's a word count scoreboard, and web badges you can add to your own site to indicate that you're participating in the program.  They'll even email you weekly pep talks from other writers to help keep you encouraged and busy through the process. When they started in 1999 they had 21 participants, but by 2008 it had grown to nearly 120,000 people!  And yes, over 20,000 of them actually completed their novels in a month.  But even if you don't finish in a month, the hardest part of writing is actually getting started and this is a great excuse. At PublishingYourWork.com we love to read, so we really get a kick out of discovering a new writer because that means everyone will have new good stuff to read.  We want to do our part to encourage new writers and NaNoWriMo, so we're offering to help!  We're offering professional consultation on your project free to 5 writers each week in November.  This offer is only for those who have registered with NaNoWriMo and are committed to trying to complete a novel this month.  We won't do editing for you (at least not in November) because that would violate the spirit of the event.  As the organizers say on their site: "Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved. "Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly. "Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap. And that's a good thing. By forcing yourself to write so intensely, you are giving yourself permission to make mistakes. To forgo the endless tweaking and editing and just create. To build without tearing down." What PublishingYourWork.com can do is try to help with those blocks that will threaten to derail your enthusiasm.  "I can't decide if she should be shot or stabbed."  "Would he really be carrying a Swiss Army Knife and duct tape?"  "Should she discover she's pregnant before or after he leaves for Guatemala?"  "Why didn't I get a six-figure advance for this?"  By doing that we hope to help new writers develop the skills to be able to get past those blocks in the future.  Besides, when you get around to producing your New York Times Bestseller (this probably won't be it) we want to be able to tell people we helped you get there. Just sign up at NaNoWriMo, get your keyboard smoking, and drop us an email at info@publishingyourwork.com to let us know how you're doing. The more people in the world that are creating new literature, the richer life will be for all of us!

The process of getting something from an idea into a published form (print or electronic) is a challenging one. Very few (if any) possess all the skills needed to get something through all the stages in that process. That's where we come in!
