It used to be that women’s erotica equated to candles and romance, but the latest erotic fiction competition from women’s site ForTheGirls.com reveals that things have changed.
Dealing with a theme of transgression, the contest attracted over 80 diverse entries – and none of them were in soft focus. The winning entry, an intense story entitled “Julienne”, saw a husband and wife work out their sexual differences at the point of a knife. Other entries dealt explicitly with infidelity, prostitution, secrets, BDSM and public sex.
“I was amazed at how intelligent and diverse the stories were,” said For The Girls’ webmistress Karen Jones. “I think it shows that women’s sexuality is a complex and evolving thing.
“Our theme of transgression sought to embrace the naughtier, forbidden side of female fantasies. Too often women’s erotica is dismissed as being either softcore or only about romance. Our site wants to embrace all kinds of erotic material – be it the candles and soft lighting variety or something with a harder edge. Women’s desires are diverse and ever changing… and sometimes they have a dark-and-dirty side.”
This was the fourth competition conducted by the site. The 2007 theme asked writers to deal with the idea of discovery.
